Saturday, January 17th, 2009i saw this video in the blog fabulist! and was reminded of Hans Christian Andersen’s “story of a mother” which is really the most heartbreaking story anyone could write.
i think Lars von Trier thought of andersen’s story when he made “dancer in the dark”. because watching it made me feel exactly the same. terribly sad. but that’s probably stating the obvious.
i read it now and broke into tears. i don’t think you have to be a mother to feel this kind of enormous pain. i remember watching the danish film adaptation of the story as a child and realizing how devastated the mother is.
